CONSEQUENCE OF CONTRADICTING AND OPPOSING THE MESSENGER (SALLALLAHU ‘ALAYHI WA SALLAM)

CONSEQUENCE OF CONTRADICTING AND OPPOSING THE MESSENGER (SALLALLAHU ‘ALAYHI WA SALLAM)

IN THE NAME OF ALLAH THE MOST GRACIOUS, THE MOST MERCIFUL

“And whoever contradicts and opposes the Messenger (Muhammad ) after the right path has been shown clearly to him, and follows other than the believers’ way. We shall keep him in the path he has chosen, and burn him in Hell – what an evil destination.” 4: 115

A very stark warning by Allah to follow the ways of our beloved prophet (PBUH) – BOTH in Quran and authentic hadiths.

Similar verses:

Then leave Me Alone with such as belie this Qur’an. We shall punish them gradually from directions they perceive not. 68: 44

So when they turned away (from the Path of Allah), Allah turned their hearts away (from the Right Path). And Allah guides not the people who are Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah). 61: 5

And We will turn away their hearts and their eyes just as they refused to believe in it the first time. And We will leave them in their transgression, wandering blindly. 6: 110

Allah also does NOT give a believer any option when a decision has been made by Allah and His Messenger:

“It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should [thereafter] have any choice about their affair. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly strayed into clear error.” 33: 36

It is important that all of us understand the significance of obeying Allah and His Messenger:

O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. And if you disagree over anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger, if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is the best [way] and best in result. 4: 59

Issues of discussions:

  1. Avoid innovations
  2. Seek knowledge from reliable sources
  3. Seek Allah Guidance through prayers, Qur’an
  4. Seek Furqan buy taqwa (8: 29), seeking Guidance

  • Avoid following majority if they are wrong

And if you obey most of those upon the earth, they will mislead you from the way of Allah. They follow not except assumption, and they are not but falsifying. 6; 116

  • Be careful of shaytan – the second trap
  • Beware of culture

Let’s pray to Allah to help us learn Islam properly and to keep us on the path of truth. Al-Buhuti reported that Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, used to say:

“O Allah! Show us the truth as truth, and bestow adherence to it on us. Show us the evil as evil, and make us stay away from it.” — Source: Sharḥ al-Muntahá al-Irādāt 3/497.

This du’a is quoted by Imam Ghazali (rahimahullah) -without any chain- as that of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (radiyallahu’anhu) with the following words:

Allahumma ariniyal haqqa haqqaw warzuqniyat tiba’ah, wa ariniyal batila batilaw warzuqniyaj tinabah

(See Sharhul Ihya, vol.10 pg.106)

Hafiz Ibn Kathir (rahimahullah) has referred to this du’a as: a ‘reported du’a’ (الدعاء المأثور) with the following words:

(Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Surah Baqarah, Ayah: 213)

(O Allah! Show us the truth as truth, and bestow adherence to it on us. Show us the evil as evil, and make us stay away from it, and do not confuse us regarding the reality of evil so that we will not be led astray by it, and make us leaders for the believers.)
